In the mid-70s, a bloody page in the history of Cambodia opens. In 1975, Khmer Rouge troops expelled residents from Phnom Penh in response to a warm welcome. This was followed by thousands of inhuman murders, the extermination of the commodity-money system, the denial of any culture and religion. The consequences of the dictatorial regime began to weaken only by the beginning of the 1990s; and in fact, the war ended only by the end of 1998. It was then that the last adherents of Pol Pot laid down their arms. This is just a brief history of Cambodia; the past of this country is very diverse, and worthy of the closest study.
