Lednice Castle Opening Hours
Lednice castle schedule varies depending on season. If you’re traveling from Prague, journey can take about two hours. So, it’s better to plan everything properly.
Lednice castle is open to public on public holidays.
February, March, November and December – Sat, Sun – 10.00 – 16.00.
April, October – Sat, Sun and public holidays – 09.00 – 16.00. You can go to Lednice castle during this period, but only if you booked in advance and there are 10 people in the group.
May, June, September – 09.00 – 17.00, closed on Monday.
July – August – Mon-Sun, 09.00 – 17.00.
How to get to Lednice castle
Many tourists arrive by train to Breclav – town in South Moravia region, which is about 9 km from Lednice chateau. It’s convenient for travelers not only from Czech Republic, but from the rest of Europe, especially for those living in Bratislava, Vienna and Budapest.
If you’re not limited in time, you can visit Cesky Krumlov city right after your trip to castle. It is located 33km away from Lednice castle, and will take less than one hour drive.
Travel from Prague
You can travel to Lednice castle on your own by bus, train or combination of those two means of public transport.
From train station, take train that goes to Breclav. Ticket price varies from 11-40 USD (depending on ticket class type). Trip will take 4hrs.
If we’re talking about Brno as a departure point, you’ll arrive to Lednice castle in 40 minutes by taxi. Traveling by train, it will take about two hours, but will be cheaper.

Explore Lednice Chateau
Lednice chateau is located on the vast territory of the Lednice-Valtice complex, which has very beautiful and outstanding landscape design. Many people compare Lednice castle with the one from fairy tale.
Previously, Lednice castle was owned by a noble family, who for centuries ennobled the surrounding park around the castle, turning it into a garden of incredible beauty. The river Dyja flows around the castle and the garden, which makes the surrounding countryside even more picturesque.
Greenhouse
In addition to the Lednice-Valtice complex itself, the Palm Greenhouse is a value for tourists. This is one of the few places in Central Europe where you can admire a huge collection of tropical and subtropical plants.
Such a huge project was really ambitious for that period of time. Initially, there was a wooden orangery. But in 1842 there was a start to the construction of something bigger and impressive. Materials that were used, such as glass, steel and cast-iron, were new at the time.
At any time of the year in the greenhouse should be plants with flowers. That was the main idea of the project. Many plants were from Americas.
Hundreds of skilled workers monitored the temperature and created favorable conditions for growth. By entering the greenhouse, you feel like you’re in a real tropical forest. It is open to Lednice castle visitors from mid-spring to mid-autumn.
Artificial baroque cave

The ground floor of Lednice palace is where some social events usually took place. Hunting rooms, dining hall, library, dancing hall and smoking room – be prepared to be amazed and admired by the wealth and decoration of the first floor.

You can also take a look at princely apartments that are also located at the first floor of Lednice castle. For 50 years, since the 1950s in private rooms there was Agricultural Museum. In 2001, it was decided to return the original appearance to the ruling princes appartments. Today, people can join the tours to see them.

Lednice Castle History
Lednice castle was firstly mentioned in historical records in 1222. But it has nothing to do with the appearance of the castle, which you can visit today. During that time, it was fortress and courtyard in Gothic style.
