Things to Do in Langkawi
Langkawi island is very famous for its beaches. It’s no surprise that diving and snorkeling are the most popular activities in Langkawi.
Swimming and Snorkeling in Pulau Payar Marine Park
You can go snorkeling to Cenang Beach (where you can also find jet skis, bananas and more). But for the best scuba diving experience, it’s better to go to Pulau Payar Marine Park. It is located south of Langkawi, but day tours are carried from the island.
Tourist boats depart from Kuah city on Langkawi (Kuah Ferry terminal). Tours run several times a day, the earliest – at 8 am. You can book your seat from any local tour operator, ticket price starts at $200 per person.
It includes round trip transfers, equipment rental, a snack on the boat and photos. The tour lasts about 6 hours (including transportation). You’ll have around 2-3 hours for diving.
Lake of the Pregnant Maiden Pulau Dayang Bunting
A beautiful lake formed in a deep crevice. Surrounding mountains resemble a pregnant woman.
You can get there by boat for 30 ringgit per person (shared boat, tickets are sold at travel agencies and on large beaches) or rent a boat for 450 ringgit, that will take you to the mountain.
Then you need to follow the path to the lake (there are signs everywhere). You can swim there or explore the lake on a raft.
Langkawi Cable Car
Tickets can be purchased at the Oriental Village. Langkawi cable car final point is an observation deck with dizzying views and the famous Sky Bridge. The ticket price depends of the type of gondola; there are standart, glass, VIP, 360 and Private. Works from 9:30 am to 6 pm.
Explore Waterfalls, Mountains, and Park Areas
Despite the fact that there are only a few waterfalls on the island, they are all truly impressive and beautiful. The most popular and frequently visited are Temurun, Durian Perangin, Telaga Tujuh.
If you want to look at the island of Langkawi from above, you can climb one of the mountains Gunung Raya and Gunung Mat Cincang.
There are a large number of protected areas on the island: Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, Taman Lagenda and Langkawi Bird Paradise & Wildlife Park.
Langkawi Underwater World Aquarium
You’ll have a chance to see variety of marine creatures: starfish, penguins, fur seals, sharks and others. Check the feeding schedule in advance and make sure not to miss this very interesting show. The ticket price is 46 ringgit for adults, 36 for children.
3D Art in Paradise Museum
Large gallery of 3D paintings devoted to different themes: animals, underwater inhabitants, cities, horror stories. There is a 3D show every half an hour. A visit to the museum is included in the price of the complex ticket to the cable car.
Visit One of Langkawi Night Markets
There are several night markets in Langkawi island and visit to several of them is a must. It’s a perfect place to buy fresh food, clothes, souvenirs and try some local traditional food. The biggest Kuah Night Market is opened on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 4pm to 10pm.
