Planning your vacation in the north of Mauritius island, make sure to visit this beach. It’s one of the best beaches in Mauritius for swimming, with safe entrance to the water and gradual depth. 4. Ile aux Cerfs

The name of the beach translates as “Deer Island”. It is located in the east of Mauritius. One of the shallowest beaches, so it is ideal for tourists with small children. At the peak of the season (November-January), the water near the coast warms up to 40 degrees.

5. Blue Bay beach, Mauritius

The only drawback of the beach is the lack of any infrastructure. There are no cabanas, showers, toilets, sunbeds or shops on Blue Bay. 6. Poste Lafayette

This place is not recommended for families with kids due to rather big waves. But if you’re interested in kitesurfing or surfing, a visit to this beach is a must. The beach line is surrounded by black volcanic rocks, highlighting the beauty and the wildness of this place. If you still decide to swim there, you should be a very experienced swimmer. If you would like to avoid crowds of tourists, go ahead and visit Poste Lafayette beach. Besides kitesurfing, you can enjoy kayaking in this area.  

7. Tamarin Beach, Mauritius

You can swim on Tamarin beach only in shallow water – due to strong ocean currents, swimming here is not recommended. For the same reason, the beach is not the best option for tourists who come to Mauritius with kids.

8. Mont Choisy

This is one of the best beaches in Mauritius which is very picturesque. The sand is white and fine, the beach is surrounded by lush greenery. It is rather popular among the locals, but the coastline is long enough so there will be a place for everyone to enjoy a comfortable beach vacation. It is located close to La Cuvette public beach. There are many water activities to enjoy in the area, like diving and kitesurfing. 

9. Le Morne beach, Mauritius

40 km southwest of the capital of Mauritius is the Le Morne Brabant peninsula with the beach of the same name. The beach has white fine sand, clear water and green palm groves around the perimeter. People go to Le Morne for diving, swimming and a beautiful tan. Here is one of the most famous diving schools of the island.

Diving here is only for experienced divers: if you have never dived with scuba gear, you will first have to undergo training in shallow water. Experienced divers can go to interesting diving locations: Passe St. Jacques, Needle Hole, Castle. All of them are located near the beach. Also, this place is well known as one of the best kitesurfing spot in Mauritius.

10. Flic en Flac beach

Flic-en-Flac beach in Mauritius is chosen by tourists with kids. The coast is very shallow here, so the water warms up quickly. There are no sharp reefs and large stones under water and on the coast either, but the entire coastline is bordered by exotic casuarinas – these are trees with large fluffy needles and unusual fruits. On hot days, they provide shade, and on rainy days, under their canopy, you can hide from drops.

A little away from the beach there are two large professional golf courses, and on Flic-en-Flac you can go diving right off the coast, snorkeling, water skiing and other attractions.

Getting to Flic-en-Flac beach is very easy: in Port Louis, go to the Brabant Street stop, and then take bus 123 to the beach itself.

11. Gris Gris

Visitors to this beach are not going to this place to sunbathe and enjoy swimming, it is a place of strength and unity with nature. There are strong currents in this area which make it unusable and even dangerous for swimming. Gris Gris beach differs a lot from others because there is no coral reef in this part of the island.

12. St Felix

Another beach that is really beautiful, but is absolutely unsuitable for swimming, the main reason is very strong ocean currents. It is located in the south of the island and its main advantage is that it’s almost free from visitors, especially during the week. Surrounded by the lush greenery, the beach is a line of fine white sand.
