What is Merlion?

The name Merlion comes from two words – “mer” (mermaid) and “lion” (lion). This is a mythical creature with a fish body and the head of a lion, which is considered a symbol of Singapore. These two creatures were not chosen by chance.

The lion reflects the willpower of Singaporeans, their aspiration, fearlessness in the face of difficulties. Also, the animal has historical significance. Once the ruler of Sang Nile Utama met with a living lion on the island and decided to establish a city on this place.
