The miniature Thongson beach with a coastline of only half a kilometer is located in a cozy bay of the same name in the northeast of Koh Samui.
The bay is on the east side of Plai Laem headland and on the island’s map you will find Thongson Bay among the seven small beaches in this picturesque area. Thongson’s western neighbor is Samrong Beach, which lies behind a rocky hill covered with trees.
On the east side of Thongson, behind a small stone ridge that goes into the sea is Tongsai beach.

Thongson Beach Line
Thongson Beach on Koh Samui can be called an ideal place for fans of secluded relaxation. There are only a couple of hotels on its territory, and there is almost no infrastructure, but this is fully compensated by the local natural beauties.
A significant part of Thongson Beach belongs to Melati Beach Resort & SPA 5 * hotel (prices vary: 5 100-11 855 THB / day, depending on the season and room class). The hotel is located almost in the center of the beach, on the area covered with greyish, very fine and soft sand.
Beach area close to the hotel and the eastern part of the beach are always clean. Even though, there are many tourists, this place is not crowded.
In the west of Thongson beach, the sand is mixed with scatterings of stones. To the east, on the border with Tongsai Beach, you will find a small cove with a wide sandy shore.
You can get there by climbing over a ridge of cameos or from the sea. In this secret place, it is quite possible to sunbathe naked.
Thongson Beach Infrastructure
Sunbeds on the beach belong to the hotels, they are not available for rent. There is no rental of beach equipment in Thongson Bay. But no one will bother you to have a bite to eat at the Melati Beach Resort & SPA 5 * beach restaurant.
To find shade on Thongson Beach you can stay under palm trees or under a huge sprawling tree in the east of the beach. Approximately 3 meters from it there is a kind of natural “paddling pool”, where kids can splash around in peace. But, during low tide water disappears from it.
If you travel to Koh Samui with children, then stay on Thongson Beach. Just make sure, you’ve booked a hotel room in advance so no need to worry about drinks and food.
In case you need something, you can get to the nearest store with a small selection of local products, which is about 500 meters walking distance. Stores with wider range of goods are 20 minutes drive by car. There are no stalls or people selling anything on the beach.
The nearest amenities of can be found in Choeng Mon area. You can walk there in half an hour or more.
Sea on Thongson, Koh Samui
The sea in Thongson Bay is pretty clean. The entrance to the water is smooth. To swim, you need to walk 30 meters. At low tide, the sea noticeably shallows, and swimmers have to wade to the desired depth of 50-100 meters. At the same time, you need to carefully look under your feet, because there are a lot of stones and corals in the nearby waters.
Storms on Thongson Beach are rare. Large waves roll on it usually only during the rainy season on Koh Samui. But swimming after sunset is not recommended: in the evenings, there are many jellyfish in the nearby waters.
