From the world-famous Le Morne lagoon to hidden gems on the east coast, Mauritius combines adventure, beauty, and vibrant culture into one unforgettable kitesurfing experience.
We’ve put together a travel guide to kitesurfing on Mauritius Island. In this article, you’ll find out the best time to visit for kitesurfing, the top spots on the island, where to take beginner lessons and rent gear, and what you need to know to stay safe on the water.

Kitesurfing Season in Mauritius
The best time to go kitesurfing in Mauritius is from May to November. The main wind season runs from June to September, offering consistent conditions ideal for the sport. Air temperatures rarely drop below 22°C, so while some prefer riding in boardshorts or light clothing, others may opt for a wetsuit. This period also falls during the island’s low tourist season, which means more affordable accommodation rates.
In months like April and October, the wind isn’t as reliable—but don’t let that discourage you. The ocean is warmer, making it a great time to try scuba diving, swim with dolphins or whales, or go snorkeling in the Blue Bay Marine Park (you can book a tour at the link).
From December to March, winds are much lighter and typically only pick up in the afternoon.

During low tide, the lagoon can get very shallow, which poses a risk of injury if you fall—you could hit your head on reef or rocks. On the other hand, some spots can have strong currents during high tide.
Always wear a helmet and impact vest while kitesurfing, especially if you’re a beginner. Keep in mind that launching kites is prohibited in certain public beach areas, so make sure you’re riding in zones where it’s officially allowed.
